British Columbia Cycling Coalition

I live in Kamloops and am a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor. I work mostly through the City of Kamloops at the Tournament Capital Centre, teaching spin, gentle circuit, core, band strength, stroller fit and small group personal training. I also work one on one with personal training clients both through city programming and through my own business Fitness For Mortals.

I have a degree in Creative Writing and English from UVic and worked as a journalist as well as in Corporate Communications before transitioning into Graphic Design for 10 years. I have also worked as a studio photographer and photo journalist. Seven years ago, I made the switch to working full time in the fitness industry.

I have some board experience as I have served as the cycling expert on the board for the City of Kamloops Indoor Gran Fondo (a fundraiser for MS) and Family Festival for the last two years.

My athletic history began with adventure racing, paddling and mountain biking and has evolved into triathlon and finally road racing and randonneuring. From 2009 to 2012, I completed a few 200, 300 and 400 k brevets with my husband. We then completed a 600 k ride from Kamloops to Williams Lake and back in order to qualify for the Rocky Mountain 1200 in 2012. We completed the ride from Kamloops to Jasper, Lake Louise, Sicamous, Armstrong, Salmon Arm, Falkland and finally back to Kamloops in just under 79 hours. My latest passion has resulted in my riding many of the highways in BC and Alberta and I have been struck by the need for a more cycling-friendly attitude through both highway maintenance and public education. I also see this need locally as I have had most of my close calls while trying to navigate my way around Kamloops itself.

As a mom, I often doubt my sanity when getting my son involved in road riding. This is what has finally motivated me to put my name forward for the Secretary position.
